Beginning the journey with care

Burial or cremation?

This is one of the first decisions to consider. Some helpful questions:

  • Is there an existing family plot?
  • Did your loved one express a preference?
  • What are the intentions for a memorial?
  • How might this choice affect guests attending - for example, due to mobility or travel distance?

Understanding funeral costs

A farewell is a very personal experience.  Each family has different requirements. Transparency is extremely important to us, we work with each family and once we understand their requirements and wishes we are able to provide a very accurate estimate. This can be during the arrangement or during a pre-arrangement.  Prices start from $3995.00
Payment is due within one month. If more time is needed, please talk to us, a small finance charge may apply as per the signed agreement. The the bullet points that you all ready have listed.

A funeral account includes four areas:

  • Professional Services and Embalming
  • Casket
  • Burial or Cremation
  • Personal Choices (e.g. venue, flowers, celebrant, catering, printing, photography, etc.)

Financial Support

We can assist with applications for:

WINZ Funeral Grant - A government contribution to help with funeral costs, based on income and assets.
ACC Funeral Grant - Financial support for funerals when a death is the result of an accident.
Ex-Services Support - Burial support and plaque for eligible veterans.
New Zealand War Disablement Pension - Lump sum for veteran or partner on death.

Creating a personal and heartfelt tribute

Personal touches

Every farewell is unique. We can help incorporate personal elements such as:

  • Choosing meaningful music or readings
  • Involving family and friends in the service
  • Displaying treasured photographs or personal items
  • Creating a memorial book for guests to sign
  • Keeping your loved one at home for a time before the funeral
  • Spending time with them at Rosewood and placing items in the casket

Early conversations with your family and whānau can ensure everyone has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully.

Burials, Cremations & Fireside Farewells

At Rosewood, we offer both cremations and burials, and increasingly, more families are choosing heartfelt, family-led gatherings. One special option is our Fireside Service, where loved ones gather beside the casket in an intimate setting, sharing stories, memories, and quiet moments, much like sitting around a fire on a winter's evening, with coffee and sweet treats. It's simple, personal, and deeply comforting.

Additional options to consider

  • Service Sheets - Designed and printed in full colour with photos or personal themes
  • Memorial Books - A lasting record of who attended and how your loved one was remembered
  • Photography - A discreet, respectful way to preserve the memories
  • Acknowledgement Cards – Thank-you cards to express appreciation

If you have ideas not listed here, let us know, we’re here to help bring them to life

Heartfelt reflections from those we've supported

“Your attitude, willingness to accommodate and expertise made the whole process interesting and satisfying rather than bewildering and unpleasant. I’m sure that funeral directors are trained well in terms of organisation and human behaviour but you are exceptional. It was fun at times” - thank you Maz

Maz and Anna - thank you so much for everything you did to guide and support our family through the sudden and tragic loss of our beautiful boy, your compassion and care was unbelievable. Heartfelt reflections from those we've supported

When our family was faced with the sudden loss of our loved one, the care and guidance we received from Maz, Anna and the team at Rosewood Funerals was truly exceptional during the most painful time of our lives.
They listened to our needs and made a difficult time feel a little more bearable. Their attention to detail and genuine empathy eased the load we had to bear. Every facet of the service was handled with grace, love, and respect, creating a beautiful space for family and friends to grieve, remember, and celebrate a life gone too soon. We are forever grateful for the kindness and support they provided during such a deeply emotional time.
